High Calorie Foods

High calorie foods are essential for children with feeding disorders. These children often cannot tolerate large volumes of foods, therefore it is important to pack in the most calories in the smallest volume.

This is the opposite of what normal weight children need, so many other parents may not approve of you giving your child high calorie foods while they give their children foods like carrots and celery. Honestly though, you need to do what's best for your child, and if they are underweight or have failure to thrive or cystic fibrosis, they need food higher in fat and calories. You cannot worry about what other parents think or say, you need to do what is best for your child.

Since as a parent you want what’s best for your child, this often means you concentrate on healthy high cal foods.

You are probably also concerned about vegetable intake. Although calories are probably more important then vegetables, there is no reason why you shouldn’t incorporate healthy high calorie vegetables into your child’s diet.

Calorie boosters can also be extremely helpful in getting children to gain weight. For children who prefer drinking, smoothies can play an important role in your child’s healthy diet. If you don't know how to make smoothies, this article can teach you the basics. To make healthy smoothies for your family you will need a high quallity blender. Supplements and high calorie supplements are often recommended for children with weight issues.

Although it’s rare for an underweight child to need to follow a low fat diet, there are cases where it is necessary, and low fat, high energy foods are best in this instance.

If your child needs to follow a gluten free, casein free diet, there are also high calorie options for that, and if you have a great GF, CF recipe please share it with us!

You may be concerned your child is not getting enough protein. This article includes great high protein foods and how to calculate how much protein your child needs.

Although it's a little more difficult with babies, there are high calorie baby foods available. This article includes a list and brands to look for! Finally, the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a healthy food kids love. This article has creative ways to make the sandwich a little differently to create a number of unique options while retaining the basics. "I just want to say: Although the sudden plunge into no Vital Jr and no baby formula was cold turkey and not easy and super scary for me, a month later, I can say that my son looks really, really good physically, is now maintaining weight, and obviously feels a little more light and happy in his physical actions. Regardless of whether the GFCF diet will end up being necessary, I am thrilled beyond words that he eats REAL FOOD, not chemicals. The lighter, more frequent meals make me feel like I am finally not causing GERD and constipation faster than I can medicate it. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your help! I truly could not have done it without your help. And I feel confident that with continued tweaking with you his diet can get in more calories and complete nutrition, which makes me feel so good as a mother (especially of a chronically malnourished child, even in utero) that I am finally actually nourishing my child."
