Long Term Problem
by Sara Powell
(Richmond, VA)
I would have never let them tube my child if I had known that he would become 100% tube dependent.
My son had an NG tube placed at 6 months, and a g-tube at 12 months, and is now almost 3 and has no idea how to swallow food. He won't even put it in his mouth.
I wish the "experts" had shown us warning signs of tube dependency, and worked with us on making sure it did not happen. Now I feel as if we are completely screwed. I wish I could grow to love the tube but I hate it with all of my heart and soul.
Rarely someone will tell me of a child they know who might be tubed and I always tell them DON'T DO IT. I've saved two children already from it, who are now thriving just fine without tubes.
Do you know someone who would benefit from information on this site?

"Getting Jessica to gain weight has been a constant struggle. Her diagnosis of Failure to Thrive in the absence of any other medical problems has caused my husband and I much embarrassment because so many people and medical professionals felt it was our fault. Your compassionate and empathetic manner helped us feel at ease and comfortable in our decision to work with you, and by taking your suggestions we have been able to get Jessica to gain 10 pounds in 6 months, putting her on the growth chart for the first time since she was 2. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
